The Office of the Attorney General of Illinois sued TBJ Drywall & Taping, Inc. alleging the company failed to properly pay its workers under Illinois law, including an alleged failure to pay overtime wages. The case is The People of the State of Illinois v. TBJ Drywall & Taping, Inc., Case No. 2024 CH 08067, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, and followed an investigation by the Attorney General's office. The Attorney General reached a settlement providing for the payment of penalties to workers. Each worker's payment amount is stated in their mailed or emailed notice and was calculated or approved by the Attorney General based on the findings of that investigation, paid less applicable tax withholdings. Payments are made in five installments between December 16, 2024 and April 10, 2028. The first Claim Form deadline was November 16, 2024; workers may still submit a late Claim Form up until January 11, 2028, and the final claim filing deadline is April 10, 2028. Immigration status does not affect the right to receive payment.
