Background
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced the settlement with Reynolds Consumer Products, Inc. and Reynolds Consumer Products LLC on February 23, 2026, resolving a lawsuit filed in August 2025. The state alleged Reynolds sold Hefty transparent blue and clear "Recycling" bags across Arizona with packaging implying they could be used for general recycling, when the bags are not recyclable in Arizona and can divert otherwise recyclable material to landfill and entangle sorting equipment. Under the consent judgment Reynolds must redesign its packaging nationwide to remove misleading imagery and state that the bags are not recyclable, and pay $30,000 in consumer restitution, $157,000 to the state, and $25,000 in costs and attorneys' fees. Arizona consumers who bought the bags should file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office before October 1, 2026 to be considered for restitution.
